Hockey Scholar

We are pleased to share that on Tuesday June 13th, students in grades 5-8 at St. Paul will be given the opportunity to begin “Hockey Scholar,” an online math and science course, in partnership with the National Hockey League, National Hockey League Players Association, the Toronto Maple Leafs, and education technology company EVERFI. With the growing importance of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education, we recognize the need to equip students with critical thinking skills and to build students’ confidence, mastery, and excitement around STEM topics.

This is an engaging and interactive online educational tool that leverages the sport of hockey to explore foundational math and science concepts. The activities explore real-life applications such as:

  • Engineering behind skates, sticks and padding for ideal performance
  • Calculation of ice surface area and volume
  • Analysis of geometric constructions and angles
  • Differentiation of states of matter – solid, liquid, gas
  • Examination of mass, velocity and kinetic energy based on player speed
  • The relationship between endurance and the circulatory system

The website follows our Ontario Math Curriculum and will be available for students to use at home, free of charge. Students will be able to access and continue their learning all summer long.

Thank you Ms. Di Bacco for organizing this terrific opportunity!
